Once upon a time,

A city called Bengaluru

Had many titles

The Silicon Valley of India

The Garden City of India

The former grew higher than the latter

And we lost beautiful mangroves in the process.

That was just the beginning of the beginning

Tens of thousands of trees were killed, thrashed and felled overnight

There were people

Who fought against this

But so few in number

That they lost.

And kept losing.

Not anymore.

Because now, we’re rising.

Slowly, but surely.

And when we rise,

You will fear us,

You will tremble before us

You will follow us

When you realise that

What we’re fighting for is worth it

And no one can stop us

Because of our love for this beautiful city Bengaluru.

[This was an on spot poem that my professor had asked us to write. It was either this or sketch something. The sky was the limit. We could write or sketch on absolutely anything. As an environmental science student, I wrote this with my burning passion to change the state of Bengaluru’s environment. It’s my first poem! Enjoy!]
